A co-pay is a fixed amount you pay for a medical service every single time. Co-pays can typically range from $10-$100.
-
A deductible is the amount of money you will pay out-of-pocket for medical services for the calendar year. Typically, once a deductible limit is reached, your insurance will begin covering most medical services.
-
Co-insurance is when you’ve reached your deductible amount for the year and your insurance pays part of a medical cost.
Example: you’ve met your deductible and have 80% co-insurance. This means that your insurance company will pay for 80% of the cost and you are responsible for 20% of the cost. This may not be a fixed amount depending on the provider.
